BRITISH GT CHAMPIONSHIP GOES TO ADAPTAFLEX SPONSORED PORSCHE

The highly impressive GruppeMTech 9 Motorsport Porsche, of which Adaptaflex is one of the official team sponsors, has taken the 2004 British GT Championship.

In doing so they also picked up first and second in the drivers' championship with Jonathan Cocker and Tim Sugden, respectively.

“It really is an impressive achievement and the 16 races have proved extremely exciting at every stage,” said Martyn Turner of Adaptaflex. “The car has performed incredibly throughout the season thanks to the highly competitive nature of the drivers, the car and the team.”

The Championship was won in exciting fashion when Jonathan Cocker finished the penultimate two-race meeting at Thruxton in second and third place, respectively. This gave 18-year-old Jonathan the title with his co-driver, the extremely experienced Tim Sugden, in second place overall. But there was still unfinished business with the team looking to complete its season by taking the team title and confirming Tim Sugden's second place in the drivers' championship at Brands Hatch.

Not surprisingly there was jubilant celebration around the team garage when they achieved their goal after the final race with Team Owner Kenny Chen declaring, “I'm really, really happy now! At last I can honestly say that we're the best team.”

In winning the Championship the team has had no fewer than 14 podium finishes out of 16 races throughout the season.

“Obviously at Adaptaflex we have been delighted with the opportunities the sponsorship has given us and even more so to be associated with the championship winning team,” added Martyn Turner.

“An added bonus is that each round of the Championship has been televised on Channel Four. This has maintains excellent exposure for the company.”

The distinctive GruppeMTech9 red, white and blue Porsche 911 GT3 RSR is one of the first of its type to race in the UK and the sole 2004 specification N-GT Porsche of this kind in the British GT Championship.

Just a few weeks earlier Jonathan Cocker notched up yet another win for the team taking part, by invitation, in the Porsche Carrera Cup, a support race for the F1 Chinese Grand Prix, on the new circuit at Shanghai.

After winning the British GT Championship at Brands Hatch it was a case of packing everything up and flying off to the Middle East for the FIA GT Championship round at Dubai then on to Zhuhair for the final event of the 2004 calendar.

Kenny Chen added, “ It's been a great year for us. At the beginning everyone said we'd have a hard time. It has been the strongest British GT Championship for years and everyone is out here to win. I'm very proud of this team and what it has achieved.”
